Privacy Policy

The short version: the products on this page send us nothing about you. We don't use analytics, advertising or trackers, and we never sell personal information. If you email us, we use your message only to help you.
Who we are
Future Starlight Co. makes games, apps and music. This policy covers this website and the products listed below. When we release a new product, we add it here before it goes on sale. If a product has its own privacy policy, for example because it has accounts, that policy applies to it. Questions: hello@futurestarlight.co.
Our websites
- Our sites are hosted by DreamHost. Like every web host, it keeps a standard log of requests (your IP address, browser, the page and the time) for security and to keep the sites running, for a limited time.
- futurestarlight.co sets no cookies, uses no analytics, advertising or tracking tools, and loads nothing from other companies.
- Because we don't track you across sites, there's nothing for a browser's Do Not Track signal to switch off.
If you write to hello@ or support@futurestarlight.co, we receive your email address and your message. We use them only to answer you, keep them only as long as we need to, and never add you to a mailing list without asking.
Buying our products
We sell through stores such as itch.io and Steam. The store takes your payment and handles taxes and refunds; we never see your card details. A store may share limited information about your purchase with us, as its own privacy policy explains: itch.io, Steam.
Hotaru Companion
Hotaru Companion is a desktop companion. It sends nothing to us: there's no analytics, telemetry, crash reporting or automatic updater. What she uses stays on your computer:
- Your settings: her outfit, personality, language, sound and window positions, plus log files
for troubleshooting. On a Mac they're in
~/Library/Application Support/Hotaru Companion. - What's playing: the title, artist and app of music or video playing on your computer, so she can react to it. It isn't saved or sent anywhere. Switching off Vibe to music (Settings › Moves) stops this completely, and the beat below with it.
- The beat: with On the beat switched on (Settings › Moves), she listens to your computer's sound while music is playing, to find its tempo. Nothing is recorded, saved or sent. On a Mac it starts off, and macOS asks your permission when you turn it on. On Windows and Linux it starts on, and you can switch it off in the same place.
- Your mouse: she notices when your pointer is over her, so she can react when you hover over her, click or drag her. On Linux, the app checks where the pointer is about 16 times a second to tell. It isn't saved or sent.
- Your desktop: where other windows are, so she can sit on them (never their titles or what's in them), and whether your computer is idle or locked.
- On Steam: she asks the Steam app on your computer which outfits you own, and keeps a small license file so they work offline. She may read your Steam display name; it isn't saved or sent.
- Outfits: choosing "Get" on an outfit opens its store page in your web browser.
The full Hotaru app, with AI conversation, isn't released yet. We'll update this policy to explain how it works before it is.
Children
Our websites and products aren't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from children. If you think a child has sent us personal information, email us and we'll delete it.
Your rights
You can ask what personal information we have about you, and ask us to correct or delete it, by emailing hello@futurestarlight.co. Usually that's only emails you've sent us; your purchase records are kept by the store you bought from. We don't sell personal information or share it for targeted advertising. Depending on where you live (for example California, the EU or the UK), you may have further rights, including complaining to your local data protection authority.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll post the new version here with a new date. If an update to a product changes what it does with your information, we'll update this page before the update ships.
